Samedir is a freeware program that allows you to synchronize the contents of folders on work and home computers (using medium - f.e. flash disk) Samedir is also an advanced backup tool.
1. Samedir works fast. If you update several files, only these files will be compressed and copied - without repacking the backup image or archive file (if you work with regular Windows XP backup or WinZIP, WinRAR, etc.)
It's achieved by unique approach - there's no "archieve file", all files are compressed and copied but their names and extensions remain unchanged.
2. Absolutely the same folders!
a) No trash will be accumulated in your computers. If you delete unnecessary files at work - they will be automatically deleted on home computer. And vice versa. None of archiving programs I know can do that! (RAR and several other archiving programs have "delete files from archive if they were erased from disk" feature but they do not delete files on disk while unpacking archive).
b) If you copy some files from another computer and use the achiving program enabling the "add files updated after..." feature, this file will not be copied to your home computer if it was not updated by you (or someone else) after the specified date. Samedir will copy it.
3. The unique "Snapshot mode" allows you to syncronize the contents of huge disks using small mediums (if you syncronized two huge disks once and now new/updated files are small enough to fit into a small medium, f.e. flash-drive).
