Cognatio is a modern application for genealogical research and presentation. It is based on one of the most advanced data models of any genealogy application. Cognatio is now a fully working genealogy application. Please note that this is beta software. Bugs may be discovered. If you do so, please report them to the Authors homepage above.
This application for genealogical research and presentation currently exists only in a preview version. It is however a fully functional genealogy application as you may enter and modify data, import and export data, and do all the tasks you normally would do in a genealogy application. The data model is one of the most advanced used in any genealogy application. You may enter not only the basic data as persons, events and relationships, but also source data, research tasks, custom events, pictures or any other kind of file, multiple names, and more. The application is able to read and write both Gedcom 4, Gedcom 5.5 and GenXML 2.0 files. In addition, GedcomXML 6.0, GedML, HTML and CSV-files may also be exported. Cognatio 0.99 can read databases created with Cognatio 0.97 or newer
Features : - Runs on Windows 98 or newer.
- Support for multiple languages. English and Norwegian are included, but anyone may easily translate Cognatio into his/her own language using the provided translation tool.
- MDI-based. Edit data for several persons, sources and repositories at the same time, as well as viewing reports and more.
- "Event-based". Enter an unlimited number of assertions per person!
- Five types of assertions: events, attributes, relationships, names, and notes.
- Create custom event and attribute types.
- Specify the type of each part in a personal name or place name.
- Use custom or pre-defined date formats.
- Enter dates in any of the following calendars: Gregorian, Julian, Hebrew, French republican, Hijri or Coptic.
- Attach files like pictures, sound, video, or any other file.
- Add repositories and sources, including source hierarchies.
- Add research tasks and subtasks.
- Complete namelist, sourcelist, repositorylist and tasklist, with search capabilities.
- Extract descendants and/or ancestors of a person into a new database.
- Imports Gedcom 4, Gedcom 5.5, and GenXML 2.0.
- Exports Gedcom 4, Gedcom 5.5, GedcomXML 6.0, GenXML 2.0, GedML, HTML, and CSV.
- Write your own reports using the built-in macro language CBasic.
- Save non-graphical reports as RTF, HTML or LaTeX.
Licensing : As Cognatio is still in development, it's free to use. The release version will be sold for $25, but a free version will always be available.
